1.What is Global Warming?
Global warming is the increase in Earth's climate temperature over a relatively short period of time as a result of the activites of humans.
2.What are greenhouse gases?
Greenhouse gases are gases present in atmosphere, the purpose of it being there is to trap heat from the Sun thus keeping Earth warm. Greenhouse gases can be both useful and not useful. Too much of greenhouse gases being trap in the atmosphere will cause too much heat from the Sun to be trapped there and eventually causing the increase in temperature thoughout the world , this process is known as enhance greenhouse effect. But if there are no greenhouse gases, the Earth would be too cold for survival for living things. Therefore, enough is enough, not too much, not too little for survival of living things.
3.Causes of Global Warming
The production of too much greenhouses gases which are trapped in the atmosphere as they cannot be broken down easily. The reason for greenhouse gases in the atmosphere to increase is because of the increasing number of industrial and other human activites. The greenhouse gases trapped in the atmosphere causes more heat from the Sun to be trapped in the lower atmosphere resulting in the increase in temperature worldwide. This process is also known to many scienctist as Global Warming.Greenhouse gases refers to gases like , Carbon dioxide, Nitrous oxide, CFCs , Methane. All of them are casues by human activites.
Carbon dioxide increased due to the burning of fossil fuels and forests
Nitrous oxide increased due to the increase number of people who travel by vehicle, the nitrous oxide is released through the vechicle exhaust pipes and it is released because the nitrogen-based fertillsers broke down.
CFCs are very little seen now, as the products that contains CFCs are changed into CFCs free.In the past, CFCs are widely used in industrial but they are prohibited by the Motreal Protocol because of the harmful effects they will cause to the environment. Only very few products in the world have CFCs contained in them now. CFC is the short form for chloroflucarbons.
Methane are produced by human , animals and bateria. Anything smelly is because of the presence of methane. Mostly cows belch as they are smelly. So, you can say that cows and other animals that produce smelly belch or dung, is one of the reasons for global warming. But without them, we would not have dairy products.
4.Effects of Global Warming
Temperature increase more at the Poles than at the Equator. This is because the Poles have more water bodies after the snow melts and then more sunlight is absorbed by the darker-coloured large water bodies at the Poles. Therefore the temperature increased in the Poles are higer than the increase at the Equator.
In temperate areas with four seasons, Spring, Summer, Autumn, Winter, each season will be longer with more precipitation. This could be benificial in many ways for these areas. However , less temperate parts of the world would likely see an increase in temperature and a sharp decrease in precipitation, causing long droughts and potentially creating deserts.
The worst effects, are the effects on the world's living ecosystem. Te slightest change can kill off several species as well as several other species that depend on them. Many plants and animals will adapt or move to deal with the shift in climate, but many would become extinct.
5.Consequences of Global Warming
Changes in the weather conditions like the average temperature increasing, excessive evaporation causing droughts/heat waves in dry region at times leading to water shortage for all living things, people will suffer. Flood will orrcur in the wet region. Different part of the Earth will either have droughts/heat waves or flood orrcuring at certain times of the year.
Impact on the plants : Vegetation growth will be affected, production of food crops will decresed leading to food shortages around the world. Hence, there will be a higher demand for food. Food prices will shortly increase after a huge demand for food.
Impact on animals : Animals may extinct because they couln't adapt to the weather, birds may have to migrate to other country or stay in the current country when they are suppose to migrate. Causing too much of a bird population in that country.
Impact on people : Although the human's adaption ability is strong, some cannot adapt to the sudden increase of temperature and eventually falling sick. As mosquitoes thrive under higher temperatures, the mutiply quickly and may causes diseases such as dengue fever, malaria and yellow fever. The number of hot days in a year will increase and increase. Long exposure to the Sun or heat waves may cuase dehydration and heat stroke, a negative impact on humans.
Rising of the sea level : When the temperature increase, it melts the ice and snow in the Poles region and hence , there will be a increase in the sea water. This may cause major cities or low lying coastal island to be at risk.
6.Ways to reduce Global Warming
You and I can help the Earth and yourself by slowing down the consequences of global warming. You can't stop global warming now because it's already too late but what you can do now is lower the effects and consequences to all the living things on Earth by Reducing, Reusing and recycling. Try not to use stuffs that creates greenhouse gases.
